Operationalisation of Community Driven Approach in Rural Sector

Water supply and sanitation plays an important role in the development agenda of ensuring that everyone has access to efficient, responsive and sustainable water & sanitation services.

Maharashtra is the first state in the county to launch major initiative of a statewide policy for reforming water supply and sanitation sector in the state. The reform program has been scaled up across the entire state and across all the projects and programs implemented by the department since 2000.

WSSD has operationalised the demand driven approach to achieve effective and sustained community managed services through the various innovative projects viz. Sant Gadge Baba Gram Swachayata Abhiyan, Shivkalin Pani Satvan Yojana, Jalswarajaya, Aple Pani, Hangandhari Mukti Abhiyan etc. The resources have been dovetailed to implement the reform approach.
