WSSD
has operationalised the demand driven approach to achieve effective and
sustained community managed services through the various innovative projects
viz. Sant Gadge Baba Gram Swachayata Abhiyan, Shivkalin Pani Satvan Yojana,
Jalswarajaya, Aple Pani, Hangandhari Mukti Abhiyan etc. The resources have been
dovetailed to implement the reform approach.

of Reform Approach

Works
around Rs.800 crores Have been mobilized across the state through Shramdan &
Self-contribution through Sant Gadge Baba Campaign.
·
One
third of the village selected by the GOI for Nirmal Gram Puraskar are from
Maharashtra in 2005.
·
In
2006 above 350 GPs received Nirmal Gram Puraskar.
·
Community
empowerment and mobilization has generated numerable best practices across the
state.
·
The
GOI schemes Swajaldhara and sector reforms have been most extensively
implemented providing drinking water to rural population.

In
the field of rural sanitation the department has launched two new and
innovative approaches viz. Gadge Baba
Gram Swachayata abhiyan and Hangandhari Mukti Gaon Abhiyan. These two
approaches are fully community driven and have achieved high levels of
popularity and success.

The
water supply and sanitation department has initiated integrated water resource
management approach; integrated health approach to water and sanitation and
effective water quality management strategies.
Outcomes based demand responsiveness towards
sanitation is focused on the promotion of collective behaviors change to seek
gram panchyats, which are open deification free. The parallel approach for
promoting rewards for best sanitary villages under the Sant Gadge Baba campaign
is creating ripples across the sector.
